Canadian Champion Kireisa's Champagne Chorus
November 25, 2006

Chorus, the "perpetual puppy", obtained her championship at 5 years of age.  Of all the Champions we are blessed to have, Chorus' championship is the one of which I am most proud.  She started out her show career as a 6-month old puppy by winning Best of Breed over Specials, a Group 4th and Best Puppy in Group.  A few weeks later, on the other side of the country, she was awarded Best in Sweepstakes at the Akita Club of Canada National Specialty.  We called her "Incorrigible Chorus" because she refused to stand still, ever, and quickly wiggled and wagged her way to 7 championship points as a puppy.  We decided to give her a vacation from the show ring to see if she would "grow up and slow down", but this never occurred to Chorus.  She had other ideas, such as playing, all the time!  When we finally realized that she never would behave in the dignified manner that an adult Akita is supposed to, we brought her back into the show ring, and she earned her last 3 points in three successive shows, still happily wiggling and wagging her tail, a truly loveable girl.  Absolutely balanced and correct structurally, she never puts a foot wrong, and "free-stacked" her way to her championship without her humbled handler (Lorraine) ever setting a hand on her in the show ring.  Chorus, it's been a long road, but what fun it has been!
